Exploring Opportunities with a Growth Mindset: Honor Browne’s Journey A student’s testimony, APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship program

Honor Browne, a student from the University of Auckland was one of the victorious team members in the 2022-2023 APRU SDG4GC Social Innovation Pitching Competition. She was invited by Chulalongkorn University, the host, to participate in an intense 1-week special training program in Bangkok from May 14-19, 2023, alongside other winning team members. The training program entailed Design Sprint workshops, eye-opening field trips to local social entrepreneurship, and engagement at “The 79th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)”, a flagship UN event where students participated at a special side event “Acceleration of Climate Action: Engagement and Empowerment of Youth for the Future.”

The APRU SDG4GC, led by Chulalongkorn University and co-designed by five other institutions in collaboration with the UN, is an intercultural odyssey shaping global citizens from 60 universities across 19 economies in the Pacific Rim. In its inaugural 2022-2023 program, students enjoyed dynamic leaning and engagements through online interactive lectures/workshops and crafting social innovation prototypes in teamwork, mentored by experts. The 2023 curriculum emphasized global citizenship, health & wellbeing, and social innovation. The students’ learning was guided by the UN SDG Primer and mentorship programs.
