Pioneering cohort of students kickstarted with the launching activities! APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship Program (APRU SDG4GC)

On November 1st-2nd, 2022, the Office of International Affairs, Chulalongkorn University, in partnership with five core partner universities under Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), hosted the first two session of the APRU SDG4GC Program via ZOOM.

Participated synchronously by more than 50 students from 27 APRU member universities across the Pacific Rim, the two-day online orientation programs featured interactive lecture sessions by resource persons from partner universities, UN agencies, and representatives from ASEAN. The orientation programs aimed at introducing students to key ideas of the Sustainable Development Goals and global citizenship concept.

The panel session on November 2nd, addressed global challenges on health and well-being, which is the theme of 2022-2023 program. Contributed by the presentations of distinguished panelists from WHO, UNDP, ASEAN, UNESCAP and Southeast Asian government representatives, the panel discussed how responses have been made to the challenges created by COVID-19 at the national and regional levels. Participants were reminded that understanding the interconnectedness of the challenges surrounding human well-being is the key to bring about the transformation of the world that is facing critical challenges since the beginning of the global pandemic. Students were introduced to the critical role of well-being in achieving the UN’s SDGs by 2023 along with its various dimensions including social, cultural, and economic.

Pioneered by Chulalongkorn University, the APRU SDG4GC aims to provide a platform for diverse groups of students and other learners to be a part of impactful interactive learning, that is intercultural and transdisciplinary, addressing the global challenges and encouraging the youth’s role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals through global citizenship in our shared global communities.
