Chulalongkorn University’s Smoke-Free University Policy

Chulalongkorn University is dedicated to advancing operations that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting sustainable development across 17 goals. This commitment is embedded through four primary roles: policy and operational practices, research and innovation, teaching and learning, and outreach and social engagement.

To promote health and well-being for faculty members, students, staff, and visitors, protecting them from the harms of tobacco, Chulalongkorn University has established a smoke-free university policy. All departments are encouraged to adopt this policy as follows:

Clause 1: Designate the entire Chulalongkorn University campus as a smoke-free area, including all indoor and outdoor spaces and university vehicles, in accordance with the Ministry of Public Health’s 2018 regulations on designated smoke-free areas in public spaces, workplaces, and vehicles.

Clause 2: Prohibit smoking of all forms of tobacco products as stipulated by the Tobacco Products Control Act of 2017 within all university premises.

Clause 3: Encourage departments to initiate programs or activities that raise awareness about the health risks of smoking, promote understanding of tobacco’s harm, and highlight the benefits of reducing or quitting smoking.

Clause 4: Support collaboration between departments, faculty, students, and external communities in preventing and monitoring tobacco use. This includes enforcing the Tobacco Products Control Act of 2017 and relevant regulations while fostering a non-smoking culture within and beyond the university.

Clause 5: Advocate for adherence to Chulalongkorn University’s smoke-free policy among departments, faculty, students, staff, and visitors, promoting health and wellness within the community.
