Chulalongkorn University has joined forces with government and big corporations to invest over 350 million baht to debut Siam Innovation District (SID), a new startup and intellectual community center whose goal is to find innovative solutions for the country and its people.
The project received a 1,000-square-meter space from Chulalongkorn, a 233-million-baht fund from the government, and numerous funds from three corporations— Thai Beverage Plc, Kasikornbank, and the Provincial Electricity Authority.
SID project director Dr. Natcha Thawesaengskulthai, said that the public-private collaboration will serve as a platform for talents and entrepreneurs to collaborate, and eventually take their innovations to the market, while showcasing advanced technology and training new skills.
Multiple types of funds are prepared for those with new and original ideas to improve education, technology, energy sustainability, economy and communities. Moreover, SID’s participating startups can draw on the experience of corporate partners to optimize their business models, processes, and approaches to the market.
SID’s grand opening will showcase more than 40 innovations that have received financial support. One of those innovations is a nano spray that remove odors in helmets for motorcycle taxi passengers.
