Chulalongkorn Stages Future Sustainable Asia to Discuss Inequality

Chulalongkorn University in partnership with KFAS co-organizes the inaugural Bangkok Forum of “Future Sustainable Asia” to discuss “Integrating Knowledge for Social Sustainability.”

The academic convention serves as an academic platform for the exchange of knowledge on sustainable development among scholars, policy makers, and public intellectuals, including those from the Asia Research Centres (ARC) in 18 countries from around Asia.  H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will officiate the opening of the conference and deliver a special lecture at Chulalongkorn University Auditorium.

The topic of sustainability has often been studied in the economical and scientific contexts, but rarely examined through the lens of social sciences. To materialize holistic strategies towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, all community members need to overcome disciplinary and boundaries and together integrate natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and traditional wisdom.

The Bangkok Forum 2018 will address social equality and human dignity, social justice and wellbeing, among other social issues that stand in the way of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Chulalongkorn University considers the challenge of interdisciplinary collaboration as an opportunity for innovation. The developmental crises also prompt the institution to reflect on its own role and potential in encouraging knowledge production, nurturing future leaders, and providing integrative platforms.
