The increasing severity of climate change has significantly impacted people’s lives, both directly through extreme weather events and other related disasters. This is a critical global issue that the international community has been working diligently to address. As a leading academic institution, Chulalongkorn University plays a crucial role in these efforts by providing local education programmes or campaigns on climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning systems. The university offers training courses, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the general public, communities, and organizations at both the local and national levels. These initiatives aim to enhance understanding, raise awareness, and equip people with the necessary skills to respond and adapt to the challenges posed by climate change effectively.
Examples of such educational programmes, training courses, seminars, and campaigns related to climate change for the years 2024-2025 include

Low-Carbon and Climate Action Training Program
Chulalongkorn University, through its Energy Research Institute (ERI), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and the Empower Project, organized a capacity-building workshop entitled “Low-Carbon and Climate Action Training Program” under the Empowering Thailand’s Department of Climate Change and Environment Project. The training took place on June 4, 2025, at the Kamolmas Room, The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.
The program aimed to strengthen the capacity of government agencies to effectively implement climate policy and low-carbon economic strategies.
In the morning session, Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaibool, Senior Director of the Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) and Deputy Director of the APEC Center for Technology Foresight, delivered a keynote lecture on “Strategies for Transitioning to a Low-Carbon Economy.” He shared practical tools for future foresight to support national and international transitions toward low-carbon systems, highlighting lessons learned from both local and global case studies.

Chulalongkorn University Co-organizes an Environmental Conservation Forum Showcasing the Results of a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project — A Model for Low-Carbon City Development in Pathum Thani
Chulalongkorn University, through the Energy Research Institute, the Social Research Institute, and the Graduate School, in partnership with Ladsawai Municipality in Pathum Thani Province, organized the “Environmental Conservation Forum FY2025” on August 27, 2025, at the Ladsawai Municipality Office, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani.
The event served as a local education and awareness platform to communicate the importance of low-carbon city development in addressing climate change risks and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The University team presented findings from the project “Monitoring and Evaluation of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in the Energy Sector of Ladsawai Subdistrict”, which focuses on assessing the effectiveness of energy-saving measures, formulating policy recommendations, and scaling up successful low-carbon initiatives to other local communities.
The forum also showcased participatory learning activities that encouraged community voices, such as
- “Energy Storytelling for Change”, where residents shared their own experiences on energy conservation, and
- “Low-Carbon Guidebook for Households”, a community manual co-created with local participants to promote sustainable energy practices at home.
By integrating scientific knowledge with community perspectives, the forum fostered inclusive participation, ensuring that climate actions address technical, social, and human dimensions alike.
This initiative not only contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation education but also empowers local communities to build resilience and improve quality of life through sustainable urban transformation.
