Chulalongkorn University’s Educational Programs and Campaigns on Climate Change Impacts

The increasing severity of climate change has significantly impacted people’s lives, both directly through extreme weather events and other related disasters. This is a critical global issue that the international community has been working diligently to address. As a leading academic institution, Chulalongkorn University plays a crucial role in these efforts by providing local education programmes or campaigns on climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning systems. The university offers training courses, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the general public, communities, and organizations at both the local and national levels. These initiatives aim to enhance understanding, raise awareness, and equip people with the necessary skills to respond and adapt to the challenges posed by climate change effectively.

Workshop on “Urban Planning for Long-term Climate Resilience and Sustainability”, January 12-13, 2023

Chula Unisearch, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), organized a workshop titled “Urban Planning for Long-term Climate Resilience and Sustainability” as part of the project Support to Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) in Asia: Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing. The workshop, held at Buddy Oriental Riverside Hotel from January 12-13, 2023, was attended by representatives from 20 municipalities across the country. The aim of this second workshop was to enhance understanding of climate change and its impacts on cities, strengthen knowledge of risk and vulnerability assessments of urban areas in relation to climate change, and improve understanding of climate adaptation and planning for long-term socio-economic resilience.

This workshop focused on the topic of climate adaptation under the theme “Urban Planning for Long-term Climate Resilience and Sustainability.” The content included fundamental concepts of climate change, adaptation planning frameworks, future climate trends, selecting adaptation pathways, driving climate adaptation actions, and exploring climate finance to support adaptation initiatives.

Thailand Research Expo 2023, 7-11 August 2023

DRMIS members in the Tsunami risk evaluation and Thailand evacuation protocol development research project have a chance to participate and exhibit the research work at the Thailand Research Expo 2023 organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The expo will take place at Bangkok Convention Centre at Centara Grand CentralWorld between 7 – 11 August 2023.

Tsunami Preparedness Boardgame Booth is located in the Research Festival area. The activities for the participants include Tsunami Preparedness Boardgame and VR simulation for the Tsunami evacuation exercise. [ https://www.facebook.com/share/17xmF6k2he/ ]

Training on Empowering Stakeholders in Low-Carbon Tourism, October 20, 2023

The Environmental Training Center (ETC) at Sustainable Environment Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University hosted a training program titled “Empowering Stakeholders in Low-Carbon Tourism” on Thursday, October 20, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bang Sare Community Tourism Office in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. The training covered three main topics: (1) the environmental impacts of the tourism industry, (2) low-carbon tourism with a case study of Nan Province, and (3) guidelines for preliminary carbon footprint assessment.

Workshop on “Gaming Simulation for Flood Risk Reduction”, September 10, 2024

The Environmental Training Center (ETC), in collaboration with the Climate Risk and Resilience Research Cluster at Sustainable Environment Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University, will host a workshop titled “Gaming Simulation for Flood Risk Reduction” on September 10, 2024. The workshop is open to faculty members, students, staff, and the general public. Chula the Impact Academic Seminar #25: “Chulalongkorn’s Crisis Platform: Digital War Room”, October 9, 2024

Chulalongkorn University Communication Center will host the 25th Chula the Impact academic seminar on “Chulalongkorn’s Crisis Platform: Digital War Room” on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Room 202, Chamchuri 4 Building, Chulalongkorn University. The seminar will showcase innovations from Chulalongkorn University’s faculty and researchers, integrating academic knowledge to prevent and solve current flood crises. The Digital War Room platform offers precise, real-time data on flood situations, helping affected communities prepare and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
