Promoting Conscious Water Usage at Chulalongkorn University

In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Clean Water and Sanitation, Chulalongkorn University has launched several projects and initiatives to actively promote conscious water usage across campus. These efforts aim to encourage faculty, students, and staff to recognize the importance of responsible water use.

Examples of Projects and Initiatives in 2023-2024:

1. Office of Physical Resources Management, Chulalongkorn University has implemented initiatives to optimize water conservation and efficiency, including:

(1) Installing sensor-activated faucets in restrooms to reduce water waste and prevent accidental water flow, as well as replacing conventional water fixtures with water-saving models across all university facilities.

(2) Displaying awareness posters in restrooms and wash areas to promote a culture of mindful water usage among faculty, students, staff, and visitors.

(3) Directing campus landscaping personnel to use treated wastewater for irrigating plants, ensuring sustainable use of reclaimed water within the university grounds. [ http://www.green.chula.ac.th/index.php/water/water-recycling-project/ ]

2. Office of Property Management, Chulalongkorn University (PMCU) has implemented a system to treat and reuse wastewater generated on campus

Particularly within the Suanluang-Samyan area, where non-potable treated water replaces tap water for tasks such as filling ponds and watering plants at the Chulalongkorn Centennial Park. This initiative, which reclaims wastewater from CU TERRACE and CU iHOUSE buildings, conserves up to 55 million liters of new water annually, saving approximately 150,000 THB in water costs each year, while sustaining the greenery and biodiversity as a lungs of the community in a sustainable manner. 3. Office of Student Dormitory, Chulalongkorn University and Chulalongkorn University’s Dormitory Student Committee have collaborated to encourage residents in university dormitories

To participate in conservation efforts by turning off water and lights in shared and private areas when not in use. Through social media and other channels, they have raised awareness to foster a commitment to reducing pollution, mitigating climate change impacts, and lowering utility expenses.
