Housing service for students: Facilitating learning and creating good citizens
One of the services Chulalongkorn University provides for its students is housing. This accommodation is managed by Residence of Chulalongkorn University (RCU) to accommodate those whose homes are far from the campus. The vision of RCU is to provide housing that promotes a peaceful and creative co-living environment. It has 3 missions:
- Providing a safe, clean, healthful and liveable environment;
- Creating an ambience that promotes learning and co-living with others;
- Promoting and developing academic learning along with virtues so that students will become good citizens through emphasis on promoting morality. Hopefully, they become perfect graduates once they leave the campus.
The Chulalongkorn University Dormitories can accommodate 3,320 male and female students in total. There are two kinds [ http://www.rcu.sa.chula.ac.th/rcu_web/index.php/aboutus/rcu-facilities ] : dormitories available for occupancy by the semester and by the month. Currently, 2,164 students stay in the former and 1,156 in the latter. The semester dormitories consist of 4 buildings:
- Champi, a 14-storey building with 248 rooms that can accommodate 992 male students as 4 students share one room.
- Champa, a 5-storey building with 70 rooms that can accommodate 280 female students, with 4 to a room.
- Phuttan, a 14-storey building (now under renovation) to accommodate female students.
- Phut Son, a 14-storey building with 223 rooms that can accommodate 892 female students.
The one monthly-rental dormitory, Chuan Chom, is a 17-storey building with 578 rooms that can accommodate 1,156 male and female students in total. Two students share one room.
Chulalongkorn University offers substantially lower rents, well below market rates, than any other private housing providers in the city. In its most recent announcement concerning housing for students, in 2021 [ http://www.rcu.sa.chula.ac.th/rcu_web/index.php/aboutus/m-room-rate ] , it defined housing fees as expenses the university charges to students who do not have family homes in Bangkok, or who have homes in Bangkok but find daily commuting too difficult, or who lack sufficient funds to rent other private accommodations during their university years.

The university also provides financial support every year to students who pass an affordability evaluation. In the first semester of 2022, Chulalongkorn University Dormitories awarded 5,000 baht each to 60 students whose families earned less than 25,000 baht a month. Students must show good behaviour and have a part-time job to support themselves. Funds of 3,000 baht each were awarded to 76 students. The funding provides students with better access to quality education while promoting a sustainable and liveable society.
