Chulalongkorn Museums and Art Galleries: An all-year free pass, discovering the world through lifelong learning
Apart from being an educational institution, Chulalongkorn University is an open door for students, professors, staff, and those who are interested to learn and acquire more information on both academics and cultural conservation. “Lifelong Learning” and “Edutainment” are utilized through the visiting of the museums and the art galleries under the supervision of more than 23 faculties under the central authority of Chulalongkorn University. Every venue has its own unique knowledge base, such as Chulalongkorn University Museum, Memorial Hall of Chulalongkorn University, Museum of Human Body in the Faculty of Dentistry, and Museum of Natural History in the Faculty of Science. Also, there are two places within the territory of Chulalongkorn University located in other regions in Thailand namely the Darapirom Palace Museum in Chiang Mai and Phra Chudathut Ratchathan Palace Museum in Chonburi.
Both the museums and the art galleries are considered to be so magical that their events will continually captivate visitors to come and visit. Perhaps, it is because Chulalongkorn University has been interdisciplinarily improving both content and pattern of the show throughout the years — by revising content and joint-enhanced presentation technique within museums in the university.
For instance, the “Clearing and Staining” exhibition integrated Science materials with a display of Fine Arts, the “FOREVER” exhibition appended local arts and cultures, and religious beliefs, and the “Rest In Progress” art exhibition organized in memory of Chavalit Soemprungsuk who is an inspiration for both the young generation and the elderly, and who promotes Thai arts to the modern world.
“Clearing and Staining” Exhibition
Integration of scientific and fine arts materials that contribute to sustainable development
Combining science and art, the exhibition demonstrates “Clearing and Staining” which is a chemical process that exposes the skeletal anatomy of vertebrates. Samples of clearing and staining specimens from various living organisms, including green stained plants, were presented to provide the public with an understanding.
The exhibition, which took place at the Chulalongkorn University Museum from 11 September to 30 October, also used explicit knowledge of high school science with the help of an aspect of art. It incorporated both academic and artistic expertise so that they could be reached, experienced, readily understood, and inspired to interest the public. Science and art materials can also help to contribute to sustainable development.
“Anantagal” (FOREVER) with competition, culture, culture and religious ideas
More than 40 exhibits will be held annually at the Chamchuri Art Gallery. Last year, Anurot Chanphosri’s “FOREVER” was a remarkable painting exhibition from 15 August to 1 September 2020. “Forever” is a piece of art that reflects the rewards of giving and receiving. They are both important for the advancement of the human race, as documented in history from the past to the present.
The artist was influenced by E-San’s (northeastern part of Thailand) painting of the local temple. The idea was about local belief, goodness in Buddhist values, and culture. The exhibition has extended the ideals of art and culture to the public and has encouraged imagination for both artists and viewers. It is where enjoyment called art can be embraced in society and eventually pushes creativity towards sustainable development.
Exhibition honoring Chavalit Serum Prungsuk Artist: Rest In Progress (Chavalit Soemprungsuk)
‘Chavalit Soemprungsuk’ is a 2003 National Artist of Thailand for visual arts — the first and only Thai honored as a National Artist by the government of Netherlands. As a devoted artist, ‘Chavalit Soemprungsuk’ is regarded as an inspiration for many art learners.
Because of the merit of his continuous work that shows the spirit of creativity and dedication, this has proved that age is not an obstacle to create art or use involved technology — ultimately promotes and drives Thai arts to the modern world.
In Thai abstract and non-objective art, ‘Chavalit Soemprungsuk’ has been recognized as one of the main figures. In his 70th, he switched his artistic medium to digital computer prints from large-scale sculptures and paintings.
During 2013–2019, in his Amsterdam studio, he has developed digital works, as well as experimented with only edition digital inkjet prints. In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Chavalit Soemprungsuk, who passed away in Amsterdam after suffering from COVID-19, the collection showed 80 items in total in the “Rest in Progress” exhibition that took place from 8 July to 2 October 2020 at the Exhibition Hall, Art and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University.
Virtual Exhibition Tour “Rest in Progress”
Boundless Art Exhibition
Furthermore, to broaden the experience and opportunity worldwide, Chulalongkorn University’s Art and Cultural Office introduced technology to organize the “Rest in Progress” virtual exhibition tour so that engagement in the field of arts could emerge. This would promote the exchange of ideas and concepts of art, which means that Thai artists would be globally recognized and offer them more accessible. If you are interested, please visit
