DonationHub: Bridging Educational Inequality through Sustainable Technology
“DonationHub is a research-driven innovation aimed at developing a sustainable resource mobilization mechanism to integrate disruptive technology into active learning via virtual communities, enhancing students’ 21st-century skills in educational innovation zones. The study followed four phases: needs analysis, design and development using e-waste, prototype testing with mixed-method evaluation, and final implementation.
The outcomes include DonationHub and TechShare, which enables teachers to exchange best practices, promoting critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and ICT literacy. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) showed that perceived ease of use influenced teachers’ attitudes toward adoption. Analysis of 1,279 students across four Bangkok schools revealed significant improvements in 21st-century skills (p < .01). This innovation highlights how sustainable resource mobilization and virtual learning can foster transferable competencies in innovative school contexts.”
Donation hub, a sustainable donation platform, focusing on mobilization donation mechanism for e-waste, such as computer notebook, printer, PC, tablet. It seeks to reduce educational inequality through collaboration among stakeholders, including universities, schools, and communities, and both public and private sectors.
Also, the platform promotes the continuous and sustainable professional development of educators through the use of learning communities and data-driven platforms for knowledge exchange while the schools will receive not only the devices, but the training to use such devices effectively in the classrooms. These innovations are intended to help teachers enhance their teaching practices, informed by data-driven decision-making and data visualization via dashboards.
The Problem
Many schools lack access to digital resources, while e-waste is increasing. Students miss out on 21st-century skills due to the digital divide.
The Solution
DonationHub redistributes used digital devices to schools in need. Teachers receive training via Virtual PLCs (TechShare) to integrate technology effectively.
Research Based Invention and findings
Donation hub was developed based on the research and development (R&D) approach, consisting of four main phases: (1) preliminary research to understand the needs and user experiences (UX) regarding e-waste resource mobilization and donation mechanism, and fostering virtual professional learning; (2) designing and developing a platform; (3) testing and evaluating the platform prototype, using both quantitative and qualitative methods; and (4) establishing the resource mobilization mechanism for integrating technology in learning to enhance 21st-century skills.
From Analysis of 1,279 students 21st learning outcome, the research yields two key educational innovations: a learning innovation, which focuses on the integration of technology in active learning management to foster the skills required for the future and promote 21st-century skills. The learning innovation will be disseminated through a Technology-Enhanced Active Learning Instructional Design Model, which teachers can either adopt directly or adapt to the specific context of different subject areas. This model promotes 21st-century skills across four key dimensions: (1) critical thinking and problem-solving, (2) creativity, (3) communication and collaboration, and (4) information and communication technology (ICT) literacy.
