CU-DSR Learning by Doing for Community

Education can take place in various settings and through various methods, including hands-on experiences, internships, and apprenticeships, and working with professionals can enhance learning. Chulalongkorn University collaborated with the Chulalongkorn University Alumni Association have created the CU-Digital Social Responsibility (CU-DSR) project to provide alternative learning opportunities for students while also helping the community. The CU-DSR project provides students with tablets to participate in activities and connect with alumni and community members. This year, 120 students have participated in the program. The CU-DSR project offers students the opportunity to work with alumni who are experts in each field to support the community, and it helps to meet the unique needs of individual students by providing hands-on experience working with professionals and building connections between students, alumni, and the community. The project encourages students to take on social responsibility for the community, both online and offline.

The CU-DSR project is an all-encompassing endeavour that targets numerous domains and industries across a broad spectrum of fields. It is comprised of the following eight groups: Digital Health Care, E-Sport, Music Charity, CU Blood, Media Content, Chula the Master, Start-Up, and ICT Support. Each of these groups focuses on different areas and engages in a wide variety of activities and initiatives. Through the CU-DSR initiative, students have a wide variety of possibilities to learn from and interact with experts working in a variety of disciplines and industries. These opportunities also give students the chance to positively impact their community. The Digital Health Care group creates platforms for delivering healthcare services, the E-Sport group organizes online gaming competitions, the Music Charity group organizes concerts for charity, the Media Content group creates educational or informative materials, the CU Blood group arranges blood donation campaigns, the Chula the Master group offers learning tools or workshops to the public, the Start-Up group supports the development of new businesses, and the ICT Support group provides technical assistance or resources to senior citizens.

Through activities like the Music Charity charity group and CU Blood, the CU-DSR project has had a good impact on the community. A Music Charity group collaborated with the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand to organize a charity concert to generate funds for children with a heart illness who required surgery, successfully raising approximately 3 million baht and aiding approximately 1,000 children. The collaboration between CU Blood and the Thai Red Cross Association facilitated blood donations, which saved lives. These examples show that the CU-DSR programme has the potential to significantly benefit the community and offer major learning opportunities to students.
