Collaboration Between CU and the Royal Thai Police in the Construction of Residential Buildings for Police Officers (Affordable Housing for Police Officers)

An initiative of Chulalongkorn University, Samyan Smart City sits at the heart of the city of Bangkok and is used for both educational and commercial purposes. The surrounding communities are also heavily populated with students, personnel, entrepreneurs as well as local residents. As well as coming together to improve the quality of life and of business, it aims to achieve the greatest benefits of a sustainable lifestyle for people of all ages and genders. Local government agencies have also played a vital role in improving sanitation, general day-to-day safety and security for the population.

The Property Management Office of Chulalongkorn University in cooperation with the Royal Thai Police have developed housing that will enhance the quality of life for police officers, which are an important part of the community. In September 2022, Associate Professor Dr. Jitisak Thammapornpilas, Vice President for Property and Physical Management, Chulalongkorn University and Police Lieutenant General Samran Nuanma, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Royal Thai Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to design and build residential units for police officers at the Pathumwan Metropolitan Police Station and the Metropolitan Police Division 6 at Soi Chula 9, cut off Soi Chula 12 (Mon 46). The old and dilapidated original residential building will be redesigned and a 24-storey building with 240 rooms will be built in it is place by the Property Management Office, Chulalongkorn University. [ https://pmcu.co.th/?p=25466 ] The construction will be according to building regulations, and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) carried out before construction commences. After completion, police officers will be able to live there in affordable housing which is in proportion to their income and the cost of living in the area they live in. This will raise the standard of living and improve the quality of life for the people in a sustainable community.
