Chulalongkorn University’s Educational Outreach for Community Empowerment
Chulalongkorn University places great importance on expanding its academic and social impact beyond campus through a wide range of educational outreach activities designed to transfer knowledge and innovation to communities, schools, and local organizations across Thailand.
These initiatives—implemented both as ad-hoc and programmed activities—aim to enhance the quality of life in local communities, promote lifelong learning, and strengthen Chula’s role as a university for the public good.
They include special lectures, hands-on demonstrations, training programs, and student-led voluntary projects that bridge academic expertise with community needs. Together, they reflect Chulalongkorn University’s enduring commitment to fostering positive and sustainable social transformation at every level of Thai society.
Featured Outreach Activities (2024–2025)
“Fan Feung San Fun (ฟันเฟืองสานฝัน)” Volunteer Winter Camp (24th Edition)
Students from the Engineering Academic Club, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University organized the 24th “Fan Feung San Fun (ฟันเฟืองสานฝัน)” Volunteer Camp (Winter Edition) at Chumsaeng Songkram Udon Khanarak Uppatham School in Phitsanulok Province, from 14–26 December 2024.
This student-run outreach program provides educational guidance, tutoring, and motivational sessions for high school students to inspire their interest in engineering and prepare them for university studies. Training workshop on “Water Quality Management for Village Water Supply Operators and Water Sampling for Laboratory Analysis”
On 20 March 2025, the Center of Learning for the Region, Chulalongkorn University organized a training workshop on “Water Quality Management for Village Water Supply Operators and Water Sampling for Laboratory Analysis” at the Phasing Research and Technology Transfer Station in Nan Province.
Seventy-five participants representing various local subdistricts attended this community-based technical education activity aimed at enhancing their understanding of water management systems.
Through both lectures and demonstrations, participants learned about water quality control, proper chemical use, and water sampling techniques—knowledge that can be applied directly to improve rural water supply systems.
Guest lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (Nan Campus), also shared insights on national policies for rural water development, further connecting academic expertise with community practices. [ https://clnr.chula.ac.th/2025/03/21/68087/ ]
AIS x Chulalongkorn University Hill Tribe Volunteer Club (Hill Tribe Club CU): “Khiang Doi Khoi Fon Klao Na Mae Mong Yao” Volunteer Camp
The volunteer camp activity “Khiang Doi Khoi Fon Klao Na Mae Mong Yao” was a collaboration between AIS and more than 30 student volunteers from the Chulalongkorn University Hill Tribe Volunteer Club (Hill Tribe Club CU). The team carried out community service activities at Ban Mae Mong Yao School, Wawee Subdistrict, Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province, for over one week in June 2025. The event was part of the “Green Energy Green Network for THAIs” project and comprised three main activities under the concept of “Create – Teach – Empower (สร้าง-สอน-เสริม)”, bringing tangible benefits to the local community:
- Create: Constructed and renovated facilities at Ban Mae Mong Yao School to enhance learning spaces and developed a Digital Library platform featuring over 500 books, enriching access to educational resources.
- Teach: Provided training for teachers and students on using the Digital Library, along with sharing new knowledge and digital skills — such as online selling — to help them keep pace with the digital era.
- Empower: Promoted equality and opportunities by passing on knowledge about local livelihoods, traditional occupations, and eco-tourism, from upstream to downstream communities, fostering sustainable income generation and long-term quality of life improvement.

workshop on “Museums and the Preservation of Plant Specimens from Nature (Supplementary Course)”
The Chulalongkorn University Coordinating Center for the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (PGC–CU Coordinating Center) organized a workshop on “Museums and the Preservation of Plant Specimens from Nature (Supplementary Course)” at Chulalongkorn University, Saraburi Campus, located in Cham Phak Phaeo Subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province, on August 15, 2025.The workshop was attended by 39 teachers and lower primary school students from Wat Huai Khongkhaowarawat School.
The program featured lectures on topics such as understanding nature and methods of preserving plant specimens, as well as a guided tour of the Art and Nature Museum in Saraburi and hands-on training in specimen preservation.
This project provided participants with valuable out-of-classroom learning experiences, helping them understand the roles and importance of museums and techniques for conserving plant specimens. It also aimed to broaden educational opportunities, promote lifelong learning, foster awareness of local resource conservation, and strengthen community-based learning networks through interactive demonstrations and field activities.[ https://clnr.chula.ac.th/2025/08/18/68178/ ]
Workshop on “Basic Pig Farming for Highland Development” by the Center of Learning for the Region, Chulalongkorn University
On 4 September 2025, the Center of Learning for the Region, Chulalongkorn University organized a hands-on training program on “Basic Pig Farming” at the Lain Nan Research and Technology Transfer Station in Wiang Sa District, Nan Province.
The activity, offered free of charge, was conducted for staff from the Phufa Development Center under the Royal Initiative. Participants learned about livestock housing, nutrition, health care, and disease prevention, enabling them to apply these skills in highland community development projects. This initiative underscores Chula’s mission to transfer practical knowledge to local communities, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and self-reliance.
