Wastewater Guidelines and Standards

Chulalongkorn University has a clear policy and guidelines to ensure wastewater treatment from buildings and facilities throughout its campus meet legally required standards and requirements.  Building maintenance staff can perform preliminary checks and tackle any potential problems following proper procedures.  The following management measures have been installed:

The ‘water treatment system’ refers to water treatment ponds serving buildings within the university premises with an area of over 5,000 square metres, as well as all canteens. The system comprises a grease trap pond, an anaerobic waste water treatment pond, an aeration treatment pond, a waste stabilization pond and other related facilities.

  1. Building staff responsible for the wastewater treatment system are required to follow the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment B.E. 2548 waste treatment guidelines and standards for buildings of certain categories and sizes.
  2. Building staff must record performance of the waste water treatment system in the Tho So 1 and 2 report forms and submit them every month to the Office of Physical Resources Management.
  3. In the aeration treatment pond, readings for ph levels, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Sludge Volume30 (SV30) must be taken and recorded regularly.
  4. In the waste treatment pond for canteens, a grease trap pond must be installed. Grease must be removed from the pond daily whenever canteens are operational.
  5. Building staff are required to regularly inspect and maintain waste treatment system equipment and machinery, such as covers for the treatment ponds, sewage pumps, aerators and sludge pumps.  Any item with impaired function must be promptly repaired.
