Chulalongkorn University’s Sustainable Water Use and Sanitation Management and Promotion Policy

Chulalongkorn University is dedicated to advancing operations that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting sustainable development across 17 goals. This commitment is embedded through four primary roles: policy and operational practices, research and innovation, teaching and learning, and outreach and social engagement.

To support efficient water and sanitation management, promote the responsible use of water, establish high standards in wastewater management, and foster water conservation awareness among the university community, Chulalongkorn University has established a sustainable water use and sanitation management and promotion policy. This policy encourages all university departments to adopt the following guidelines:

Clause 1: Recognize that water conservation, valuing water resources, and using water efficiently are the responsibilities of faculty, students, and all staff members. Everyone is expected to cooperate in following established measures to ensure water and sanitation management is monitored and reported in accordance with specified plans.

Clause 2: Promote behavior change in water usage among faculty, students, and staff, encouraging them to use water responsibly and efficiently.

Clause 3: Encourage all departments to set annual targets for water savings, with clear communication to faculty, students, and staff on effective methods for achieving these goals.

Clause 4: Support all departments in choosing high-efficiency water usage materials and equipment, including procuring products that prioritize water conservation and environmental sustainability.

Clause 5: Require each department to treat wastewater from its water use before discharging it into drainage systems or public water sources to help reduce water pollution.

Clause 6: Promote the reuse of treated water for departmental activities, such as watering plants, flushing toilets, and general cleaning.
