Chulalongkorn University announcement on waste and hazardous waste management policy BE 2560

As Chulalongkorn University is determined to become a sustainable institution that attaches importance to sustainable utilization of natural resources and waste management, it is deemed appropriate to issue an announcement of the university’s policy on the management of waste and hazardous waste.

By virtue of Sections 27 and 32 of the Chulalongkorn University Act BE 2551, the president, on the recommendation from the Sustainable University Policy Committee at its meeting 4/2559 on December 7, BE 2559, issued a policy on waste and hazardous waste management as follows:

1. This announcement is called “Chulalongkorn University’s Announcement on Management of Waste and Hazardous Waste BE 2560”.

2. This announcement is effective from the first day after its publication.

3. Every sector and unit of the university must consider taking steps within the scope of the policy on the management of waste and hazardous waste so that Chulalongkorn University will become the role model for zero waste management as follows:

  • A. Choose materials, raw materials and products that are environment-friendly in line with the university’s guidelines.
  • B. Reduce waste and separate waste and hazardous waste under the 3Rs: Reduce waste and utilization of resources; Reuse waste and resources; and Recycle waste and resources.
  • C. Manage and develop support systems to effectively reduce, separate and manage waste and hazardous waste from their original sources up to their end usage, in ways that will enable the university to become a learning center for communities and other agencies.
  • D. Promote research and technological development and innovations in the management of waste and hazardous waste.
  • E. Incorporate knowledge about reducing, separating and managing waste and hazardous waste in textbooks or in classes and promote activities that will instill awareness and discipline among members of the public and students. Doing so will lead to the creation of an organizational culture that prioritizes sustainable waste management and efficient utilization of resources.
