Chula’s Efforts in Promoting Policies to Reduce Marine Pollution and Minimize Alterations to Aquatic Ecosystems

The sea and coastline are natural resources of great significance to the country, both in terms of the economy, society, and the environment. To ensure the efficient management of these resources, Chulalongkorn University, located in the heart of the city, actively promotes policies for reducing marine pollution and plans for minimizing alterations to aquatic ecosystems. This is achieved through collaboration with responsible organizations to achieve these goals as follow:

Chulalongkorn University been supporting the faculty and researchers to be parts of the committee for marine policy in the governmental institutes such as Pollution Control Department and Department of Marine Science.  The policies involve with setting the standard measures for different kinds of pollutants such as microplastics, mercury, etc that have been released from the land into the rivers and oceans.  [ https://www.chula.ac.th/news/67351/ ]

In addition, together with Royal Thai Navy, Aquatic Resources Research Institute and Chula Unisearch has be assigned to establish Center for Marine Knowledge in Thailand to assist Thailand in policies related issues in protection of marine ecosystems and prevention of marine pollution in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea.
